Oil and Spills
Submitted Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 4:04:46 AM by Klaitu

Alright people, it's time I spread some straight up news about this whole oil spill thing, because I thought it was pretty obvious but apparently it isn't.

1. Oil companies HATE OIL SPILLS more than you do. You've seen The Beverly Hillbillies, and you know that oil is also called "Black Gold". Well, someone's gold is spilling out all over the ocean. Oil companies are not terrorists, and are not trying to destroy the environment.

2. Uninformed quote number one from twitter:

Why is the corporation RESPONSIBLE for the mess, with an interest in saving the OIL (not the ocean), also controlling the cleanup?

Because if you make a mess, you are expected to clean it up. The idea that RP should not participate in the cleanup of it's own spill is just stupid.

Yes, BP wants to save the oil, but the oil that is already in the ocean pales in comparison to the amount of oil under the surface. BP wants to cap the spill as quickly as possible, the goal of BP is the same as that of everyone else: Stop the oil from flowing into the ocean. Does their motivation really matter? They're probably going to need all the money they can get to pay for the mess as it is.

3. Uninformed quote number two from twitter:

BP should FOOT THE BILL, NOT control the response!

BP is footing the bill, they don't have a choice because they are being held accountable for it by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Additionally, the authority in control of the spill response is the US Department of Defense, not BP.

4. Uninformed twitter quote number 3:

Using questionable dispersants from companies they have close ties to? Come on. Wake up.

The use of dispersants was approved by the Enviornmental Protection Agency and the dispersants were deployed by the Department of Defense. They were approved because they had some success with these dispersants in the UK.

Conclusion:

Oil spills are bad. BP should have checked their gear and made sure it wasn't screwed up before a disaster like this happened. BP is responsible for the mess.

The spill affects millions of people, many who are rich, and some who wield political power. People don't like it when other people screw up their stuff, so you can rest assured that BP, who is obviously responsible, will most definitely pay a high price for what happened.

The company that actually operated the oil rig will most likely cease to exist.

But even though bad things happen, you might as well stop sensationalizing and get your facts straight, internet people.

Red Dead Redemption

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably been waiting for Red Dead Redemption to come out for several years. Well, the wait is finally over!

If you boil Red Dead Redemption down to it's base elements, it is essentially Grand Theft Auto 4 set in the old west.. but describing that way would be an injustice.

RDR is a living, breathing western world for you to play in, as you guide the protagonist, John Marston through New Austin (fake Texas), Mexico, and another fictional state that is like Missouri and Oklahoma combined.

It's a western, but it's set in an interesting time.. 1911, at the very close of the old west, and just before World War 1.

The plot is compelling throughout, and it actually gets very gutsy near the end, especially for a video game plot. I give them a lot of credit here.

Anyways, Red Dead Redemption is awesome, and you should play it.

Buy it.

Tony Stark is back, and he's just as awesome the second time around.

This is where I would ordinarily post more details about the movie, but I don't want to spoil anything.

Suffice it to say, if you liked the first Iron Man, this second one is equally as good!
