Rhysart's family was killed in an attack by Mordread the lich, dragons were involved in their death. He spent 50 years living in the woods with animals, especially deer.

He came back to live with the citizens of Brittania to help fight off Mordread. Mordread sent Azhur the Dragon to kill Rhysart. Azhur could take human form. The Great White Hart was found and Rhysart took his antlers and fashioned a bolt. Azhur betrayed Mordread and helped find the Potion of Purity that Rhysart needed to treat the white bolt. Mordread killed Azhur. Mordread killed Rhysart and trapped his ghost on Temple Island. The friends of Rhysart recovered the bolt from the ghost, Twillight and gave it to the golden dragon twins, TalHur and SulpHur. They took the adventurers to Temple Island and freed Rhysart and Rhysart killed Mordread once and for all. Hebban Olla took possession of the soul of Oberon the Healer and used alchemy to turn Rhysart to stone atop the Mage Tower in Moonglow. Rhysart's friends went on a three part quest to find his cure, the Potion of Flesh. Cadfael the Monk and the Lady Averra took the adventurers in search of the potion made by Carnes. They ran into the blue dragon Faslandir along the way. They dug up the potion in a treasure chest outside Rhysart's cave and used it in a special ceremony to return their friend to flesh.

Later Oberon the Healer broke free from Hebben Olla's bond and came to warn Rhysart of a major attack. Hebban Olla himself appeared at Yew and killed Oberon. The Faithful Ogre Lord appeared and led the adventurers to a tomb near Trinsic, between the two lakes, not far from the shrine of Spirituality.
