Letter to Theo Mayor of Trinsic
Dear Mayor,

Earlier today I took a pilgrimage to Verity Isle, and more specifically to the Lyceaum. The Lyceaum is the kingdom’s great library, but also contains many records from years past. From time to time, Lord British orders a census of the lands, it was my hope to locate a census record for Hebban Olla, what I found was far more useful. My search of the census records proved rather unfruitful, so when one of the Keepers of the Great Library mentioned to me that they also chronicled news and archived it with in their walls, I jumped at the chance to examine these records!

The Keepers had been chronicling for quite awhile. As I found records all the way back to the year 317, ten years ago. Unfortunately, this saga began much longer than 10 years ago. I have, however been able to construct a bit of a timeline.

Here are the events that happened prior to year 317 as best as I can determine:

1. A Man named Hebban Olla is born, he is proficient in the use of magic, and was either born evil, or was turned evil by circumstances which I dare not speculate.

2. Hebban Olla commits evil acts, but is defeated, killed, and magically sealed within his own tomb to prevent escape. The Tomb can only be unlocked with the "staff of Dar salaam".

3. Oberon the Healer obtains the staff of Dar Salaam, it is suspected that he was the person who sealed the tomb, but that cannot be confirmed.

That gets us up to the year 317, where records begin to appear... 10 years ago, whilst I was lost at sea, and the Trinsic Town council had just begun to form, Maximillian of Yew and the Yew militia were in full swing. Knowing that the Staff or Dar salaam was the key to Hebban's tomb, Maximillian and the Yew council ordered the staff destroyed. I submit to you this article, written by one Lord Tarin Ro'Gar:

"Last night I attended the Yew Town Council meeting. The evening started as a celebration, with awards for outstanding citizenship being handed out. Afterwards politics were discussed, as Costanza from the newly formed Britain Town Government made a brief speech to the crowd to let us know of upcoming events in the city, and we also heard news of a new government in development in Trinsic."

It was at around this time that events took a turn for the worse. Maximillian addressed the citizens regarding the latest happenings in Yew, more specifically the spectre known as Hebban Olla. Rhysart the Hermit joined the meeting, and the council agreed that the staff that Oberon has been carrying must be handed over and destroyed. Unfortunately Max stated that Oberon was not especially eager to partake in the council meeting, and none knew where he was. Several citizens, including myself, began a search for the healer, who was soon found and escorted to the council chambers.

Oberon was not looking well that evening, he seemed to be in quite a bit of pain and complained of headaches once again. When asked to turn over the staff, Oberon was surprisingly obedient - but at that instant Hebban Olla appeared! Few could make out what the ghost was saying, but when Oberon passed the staff to Maximillian, his body became engulfed in a pillar of flame that would not cease! The staff was quickly returned to Oberon, and the fire extinguished itself. It was evident that the hold Hebban had placed on the staff and Oberon was more powerful than we had anticipated.

The Healer asked for a chair, as he was feeling very weak. Oberon then stated that he believed it would be possible to remove the hold the staff had on him, but it would require the saliva of the mysterious White Hart that has been appearing in the forest of Yew. Rhysart and a few others stayed behind to watch Oberon while the rest of us searched the forest for the creature. While searching the Yew crypts with Denzen, we received word that the Hart had been found and was taken to Rhysart's cave.

As we stepped through the gate, we saw the White Hart running around panicked inside the cave. It was felt that the large number of people were frightening the beast, so we exited and allowed it to move outside. A large circle of citizens was formed to contain the Hart, which still looked very frightened. Someone suggested that it may be hungry, and immediately everyone began chanting 'In Mani Ylem' to drop apples, peaches, and other foodstuffs on the ground. The Hart slowly calmed, especially when it saw that the fair Kazola was in attendance. Oberon and Rhysart stood in the center of the circle, where Oberon asked the Hart to come so that he might collect the saliva. It appeared that we would soon free Oberon from the curse of Hebban Olla, but what happened next shocked us all.

As the White Hart approached, Oberon wielded the staff and struck it down with one blow! Hebban Olla appeared in the field and once again walked into the healer's body. Oberon carved up the creature and pulled its heart out, and began cursing the citizens. Several people attempted to attack Oberon but no effect was apparent - The Healer even mocked those who tried. Oberon\Hebban called for dark forces to protect him, and we were soon surrounded with dozens of dread spiders! Many brave warriors fell, but several healers were on hand to resurrect the dead. It was a very long battle, but in the end we were victorious. The ground was littered with the corpses of spiders, and Oberon was gone. It was believed that Oberon might try to complete the ritual required to resurrect Hebban Olla, and we soon found ourselves standing at the Stone of Souls. Details at this point are sketchy at best, Oberon was not seen at the altar when I attended, and many decided to leave. We do not know where the healer is now, or what his true plans are, only time will tell."

Soon after, in the year 318 the Tomb of Hebban Olla was rediscovered, for its location was forgotten by the people, as if by magic. William Kopek was the soul who found it and lived to tell the tale, here is the account from his own words:

"Two nights ago, I was hunting for small game south of Britain. I had a fairly large amount of leather leggings and went on my way home toward Trinsic. Although, I've been making this run for several days, I took a slightly altered path and ended up between two small lakes. I've studied this area about my house thoroughly, but this time, something new, and something evil was felt. I was compelled to journey to the Northwest when I happed upon a black Altar. It was a most gruesome sight: small pools of blood lay about and a skull caught my eye. Upon close inspection, I saw in scripted strange writings. Like none other I've seen before! Not the language of wisps, Orcs, or the like, but something new. I immediately fetched my friend, Bushnell. He and I studied it and attempted vainly to translate it. This way, that way, forward, backward, but to no avail. It MUST mean something and my subconscious told me that there was a connection between this and the rumors of the new magic, Necromancy. The black Altar has been there for five days now. It sends chills down my spine and glows in the dark. With it, monsters seem to be roaming about. These lands are very scarce when it comes to animals. Only once in a great while do I see a single goat or cow. But now, I was almost slain by Ogre Lord!! He was ravaging the area; corpses of people and animals lay about. I considered myself lucky to escape. The Ettins, trolls and all of which I sometimes see now. I'm not sure that the recent monsters inhabitants are linked to the black Altar, but I ask you to let it be known of this evil sanctuary!! If you would like to see it, start from the bridge halfway 'tween Britain and Trinsic. From there, head straight south, occasionally veering to the west. When you see two small lakes, stand between them and walk northwest. You're sure to find it!! Send your brightest man, for this is not easily to be translated. Or better yet, post this for all to see and get the community to join together!"

Later that same year, a man named Gimli had an encounter with a Black hart; it is thought to be the counter to the white hart as depicted in the article written by Lord Ro'Gal

Sometime in the year 319, Rhysart the Hermit was turned to stone by Hebban Olla, the record of his being turned to stone is missing, but there are chronicles of people trying to save him. I assume that he was released in this year as well, but there is no record of him being released from stone either.

In 320, a man named Mordain claims that he built the altar in a scheme to learn the art of necromancy, although I don’t believe this is true.

After being lost at sea, I was able to return to the Mainland in the year 322, at the time, I had no idea that the Hebban Olla saga had been going on so long.

In the beginning months of 323, the Faithful ogrelord made his first appearance in yew, searching for Oberon the healer. Hebban himself had summoned the ogrelord. I suspect that the lack of activity from 320 to 323 was due to Hebban gathering his strength to summon the Faithful ogrelord. The Ogrelord’s mission was to kill Oberon, fir it is thought that only Oberon knew how to prevent the resurrection of Hebban. Elwynn, who witnessed the summoning of the ogrelord, reported that he did not find Oberon this time.

Later, in 324 the ogrelord appeared in Moonglow in search of Oberon, where a man known only as "purple" They searched for Oberon together, but to no avail. We know that the ogrelord finally caught up with Oberon, as he is buried near Empath abbey, it is thought that he taught the secrets of the tomb to the guild of healers before he passed away. This event is not chronicled.

This brings us to the present day; the Ogrelord still roams the land, attempting to resurrect Hebban Olla. Having uncovered this history, the next step of my investigation is to locate and speak with Rhysart the hermit about the gaps in the chronicles.
