It is sometimes said that Earthlings have an amazing natural dedication to virtue. Their world knows nothing of the Ether or the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, but nevertheless earthlings seem to have an innate, even instinctual sense of virtue. Such is the case with Alec DeLeon.

Some years ago, Britannia was plagued with problems. Brigands ruled the trade routes, Monsters were swarming from their dungeons, and the Britannian people were becoming more and more discontent. Who better than an influx of Earthlings to help renew the spirit of the people, and drive off the monsters and brigands at the same time? With his Serpent Medallion, Lord British began to call people from his homeland into our realm.

The skies of Britain flashed with magical energy for almost 2 years as the king located and called forth those he best felt were up to the task. One such person was Remi DeLeon. Remi had once been a respected member of one of Earths largest police forces, but had quit in despair after his wife died in a snowstorm. Remi was left with the guilt he felt for her death, and their toddler son, Alec.

Late one night Remi awoke to the sound of swirling air, and the blue glow of a moongate. We in Britannia know this sight well, but remember that Earthlings seldom see such things. As was the case with most of the other Earthlings Lord British called, Remi curiously touched the moongate, and was drawn immediately into the castle courtyard.

I have not witnessed such a spectacle before or since as the reaction of Earthlings as they suddenly appear in a place foreign to them. Remi was no exception.. he stood agape for what seemed to be several minutes, trying to take in his surroundings. Lord British then approached the dumbfounded Earthling and gently explained what had happened. Together they sat upon a bench, the Kings hand being reassuring and guiding. Remi's shock began to subside, and realization began to set in. Nobody noticed the Earth weapon he carried at his side.

While this was all standard procedure to us, it was a very extraordinary day for Remi. The Royal Court, myself, Lord British himself.. none of us had realized what we had done. Before anyone could react, the King was held hostage at the point of the Earth weapon. We had seperated a lonely man from is only son, and Remi wasn't going to take it lightly. At the time, we still didn't realize what exactly had happened. Remi demanded that the moongate be opened again, and with some struggling Lord British obliged. As suddenly as he had appeared, Remi was gone, the shaken Lord British slumped to the ground.

Normally, during an immigration Lord British asks the immigrant if they would like to be returned, or if they would like to stay in Britannia and build a new life. Some had returned to Earth, but most stayed. None had ever threatened the kings life. The Royal Guard was furious, but Lord British stayed them. The King realized that he had seperated the man from his only child. Resolving to correct his mistake, he bid the guard and court to remain and stepped through the moongate himself.

We knew that our time and Earthling time were different, and it was another day before Lord British returned with Remi and little Alec. For them, it had only been 2 hours. There was a feast in their honor that evening, and Britannian clothing, equipment, and gold were provided them. Later in the week, they sailed to Magincia to begin their new lives. As the years went by, Remi took a wife, which Alec would come to call mother.

As Alec grew, he was never told of the circumstances which brought to him Britannia.. he was never even told of his true origin. He was good student, and got along well with the other children. He trained as a bowcrafter, like his father before him. Together they led a simple life, though his mother were engaged heavily in politics. Together they shared a long and healthy life.

At the time, the Council of Mages wanted to restrict education in Britannia to nobles only. In this Alec's mother was opposed, though she were head of the council. Some of the more corrupt members forced the issue, and the commoners took up arms. There would have been a riot, had not young Alec intervened. The council was backing a lost cause, and so in spite one of the corrupt members hurled an energy bolt at the unsuspecting mother. Remi leapt into the path of the bolt, which hit him square in the chest and knocked him back into his wife. Together they tumbled off the dias, the latter died instantly. The councilmember who had cast the energy bolt ended up being killed in a riot in Dungeon Wrong a year later.

Remi and Alec attempted to return to their simple lifestyle, but it was not to be. Alec was restless and felt unfulfilled. He set out to find his own path, and boarded a ship for Trinsic on the 6 month anniversary of his mothers death.

Alec's bowcrafting skills made him an invaluable asset to just about any fighting force in the realm. He traded his skills for training and boarding, and became proficient with the use of the mace. He met a young woman there, and fell in love. This union was not meant to be, and after he caught his young wife with another man, he decided to try his luck in Vesper.

On the journey to Vesper the ship encountered a storm and sank, Alec survived, but was marooned on a desert island for nearly 6 years. With nothing to do, Alec spent those years in reflection and when he was rescued by a fishing boat, he was a changed man.

Alec continued his journey to Vesper.. by land. He began to seek a life of adventure, and a guild that could help him accomplish that. There was a local guild in Vesper called Nova Roma which he joined. It was there that he met Carson, Kayne, and Sothxx.. all of whom would come to play integral roles later in life. Nova Roma helped satisfy his craving for adventure, but it was short lived. The Guilds master took the guild dues and fled like a coward. Left with no recourse, the guild disbanded and moved to other things. In Alecs case, he moved to the Order of the Golden Rose in the old Drizah Villiage. The Order was an old guild, and proved quite political. When Alec attempted to point out that the guild needed more leadership, he was dismissed. Disheartened, he moved to Yew. The Order of the Golden Rose fell less than a month later.

At this point, Alec decided to seek out the most virtuous people he could find, and bring them all together into one unit. For this task he would need a ship, and that meant carving more bows.. a lot more bows. Eventually, the ship was completed. At the launching ceremony, he recieved word that his father was ill, and so the maiden voyage of the Maelstrom Rider was to Magincia. Unfortunately, it was too late, his father had died.

Perhaps he was hardened by the death of his mother, or by the years of isolation at sea.. but Alec felt no great sadness. He knew his father had led a good life. While searchnig through his fathers house, Alec discovered the charter Britannian certificate given to Remi all those years ago. He had begun to uncover his past.

With his own ship at his disposal, Alec was able to travel easily to Britain where all of his family secrets were revealed. It was on that day that I first met the grown Alec. I had only seen him once before, on the night of his arrival. During the council meeting that day, Lord British bid me privately to give this young man a task, and so I did. I saw a need for a group to investigate the crimes of Britannia, and I delegated this responsibiity to Alec.

Alecs duties with the Kilted Police have brought him to many places near and far. Recently, he even wed again, this time to a beautiful bard named Branwen. Together, they have strenghthened the Kilted Police, even withstanding its near-bankruptcy from the Britannian Tax Commission. Soon after the bankruptcy incident, Alec found funding with the Royal Knights of Britannia.. a relationship which continues to this day.

Since the day he came to the castle I have watched Alec, now Commissioner Alec DeLeon of the Royal Britannian Kilted Police. In all of this time, I have never known him to be anything but fair, Honorable, and Honest to everyone he meets. Perhaps what they say is true.. perhaps the Earthlings do have an innate sense of virtue after all.
