Citizens Against Jenner
Submitted Thursday, October 31, 2002 - 10:18:10 AM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortHave you ever been mugged in the streets of Trinsic by a drow in the middle of the night?

You will.

And the candidate that will bring it to you? Lord Jenner.

Every politician has a platform, and Lord Jenner is no different. However, his platform for obtaining the office of Governor of Trinsic is on the grounds that good and evil deserve a voice in the government of Trinsic. That those of good must understand that the murderous thieves may, from their point of view, be acting in the ways of good, and that from their point of view, you, the innocent citizens of Trinsic, are the evil ones. While this philosophical standpoint may be sound in the discussions of the Lycaeum on Moonglow, they certainly are not the standpoints that any
Governor of the City of Honor should hold in his campaign.

Thus, we ask that you choose carefully at the upcoming Trinsic elections, and that you register to vote and make your voice heard. Take a stand against Lord Jenner and save the streets of Trinsic from a fate worse than Minax.

This public service announcement brought to you by the Citizens Against Jenner.

High Council Meeting Minutes
Submitted Thursday, October 31, 2002 - 10:16:06 AM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortThe minutes for the 17th meeting of the High Council of Britannia are now available in the hall of the High Council (council.alterythem.com). Below are the most notable issues brought forth during the meeting:

Passing of the Bill of Reform
The Bill of Reform, a set of amendments to the Royal Constitution, were passed. Amongst these ten amendments are clarification of the eligibility requirements of Councilors, a procedure for replacing essential non-voting officers, and making adjutants required of all Councilors to help prevent a lack of quorum at meetings. The amendments will be added to the Royal Constitution soon (if you would like to view them prior to that, please visit http://www.alterythem.com/radian/bill_of_reform.htm).

Whispering Winds Granted Ambassadorship
The city of Whispering Winds was granted an ambassador to the High Council.

The Ankh Given Official Military Status
The Ankh was granted official military status as part of the Britannian forces under command of the Grand Marshall of Virtue.

Resignation of Chancellor Jerred Ghyss
Doctor Ghyss resigned his role as Chancellor of the High Council in a strong speech that indicated his departure was not out of any recent event, but because his desire was to allow fresh ideas into the Council, and that by changing leadership, he would establish a precedent that no leader should be eternal. Many of the Council expressed their thanks to the Doctor for his service, and expressed the honor of having served with him. Doctor Ghyss named Ra'Dian Fl'Gith as the interim Chancellor of Virtue in his absence. Doctor Ghyss' speech will be made available on the Council site soon.

Information on the Upcoming 18th Meeting of the High Council of Britannia

With the resignation of Doctor Ghyss, the High Council shall begin deliberation of candidates for the new Chancellor of Virtue. These candidates shall be announced at the next meeting of the High Council. As specified in Amendment 8 of the Charter, each city represented by a voting seat upon the Council (Britain, Skara Brae, Jhelom, Magincia, Moonglow, Trinsic, Minoc, and Yew) has the right to appoint a single member from their town council to address the Council and cast vote upon a candidate for the Chancellor of Virtue. The election of the Chancellor of Virtue shall take place on Monday, November 11, 2002, with the announcement of candidates taking place on Monday, November 4, 2002. To register your official for voting upon the office, please contact your representative Councilor or attend the next High Council meeting to so register.

Also, deliberation shall begin for the official replacement of Grand Marshall Alazraham. General Nero has been in an acting capacity of Grand Marshall since Alazraham's untimely death, and candidates for such shall be announced at the coming meeting. As with the election for Chancellor of Virtue, each town council who is represented by a voting seat has right to send a single member of their council to address the Council and cast vote upon a candidate. There is no need to register more than once, as both election for Grand Marshall and Chancellor of Virtue shall occur within the same time frame.

As always, each public meeting of the High Council is open to the public, and we encourage such to attend. Time will be given during the meeting for anyone who wishes to bring issue before the Council. To ensure you are given a chance to speak (as sometimes events may take longer than expected), you may request an item be added to the Council's agenda for the meeting. Please visit http://pub19.ezboard.com/fthedailyheraldfrm8.showMessage?topicID=104.topic to add item to the agenda for the next meeting.

The 18th Meeting of the High Council of Britannia shall occur on the Trammel facet in the Parliament building on the southeast corner of Magincia this coming Monday, November 4, 2002 at 8:00 PM CST.

Thank you,

Ra'Dian Fl'Gith
Interim Chancellor of Virtue

The offering, Part 3
Submitted Tuesday, October 29, 2002 - 11:53:41 AM by Syrisi Maldicta

Syrisi Maldicta Caleb thought about what the High Priestess told him during his long ride home. He had to choose very carefully who would be involved in planning this act. There were the obvious of course ... Kat, Lust, Athena and Skar ... but what of the rest? As he reached the Dark Tower and climbed the stairs to his chambers thought gave way to exhaustion as he collapsed upon the bed.
When the Jabbuk awoke his mind immediately raced with the visions he saw in his sleep ... a bride and groom, filled with misguided ideals, dripping with self-proclaimed virtue cut down at their marriage altar by dark warriors and mages..........his warriors and mages who appeared from nowhere to swiftly send the two betrothed to the spirit world. He saw in his vision the spirits captured by his mages and taken to the pentagram. And as the spirits stood in the center of the candles the chanting of the mages that would bring them back to life, but not as the virtuous ones they had been before. They would come back as servants of Lloth to aid in what would bring the rest to their knees.
The Jabbuk quickly rose from his bed and saw the slave, her leg chained to the floor. As he looked at the scrawny pale female he chuckled to himself. "I wonder where they found this fool?" He withdrew the key from his pouch and unlocked the shackle, reaching down and with one swift movement pulling the wench to her feet by her hair. The startled female pushed against him as he gave a firm tug on her hair. Through clenched teeth, he said, "I have a job for you. If you are good, I may only beat you. If you are not, ........" Caleb placed a hand around her throat, giving a firm squeeze and pulling her close to him, whispering in her ear, "The pain you will experience will be like nothing you have felt before. You will beg me to kill you," and with that he dragged her from the room, her cries echoing off the stone walls.

Bloodfyre Summonings
Submitted Saturday, October 26, 2002 - 3:59:53 PM by Syrisi Maldicta

Syrisi MaldictaBloodfyre Summonings....

Ayan and Darby trained on the roof of the Temple. They had been tasked by Tenebrous to seek out those Atalan still in hiding. The speech of their race was coming back to them slowly and they found themselves speaking in the dialect more and more often. Hundreds of years of separation from their own kind had made the Atalan a bit rusty indeed...but the inherent language slowly came back to them.

"Sister Darby...more and more people are coming forward, and yet the Emperor has not called for a Bloodfyre Summoning. With our shrines in Skara and Trinsic...one must wonder, what is his delay." Lowering her war axe, she leveled a gaze at Ayan. "Remember how our lords work here, Ayan. Asimov is impulsive and runs on pure instinct. Tenebrous works with an eternal patience and forethought before committal." Ayan nodded and stared at the empty chair of Tenebrous who had been gone now for several days, the journal he was reading...that of the fallen Mondainite Tatsumaru, still rested on the arm of the chair undisturbed.

"Ayan...behind you...turn SLOWLY." said Darby in a semi-cautious tone. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw a large panther with the bloodiest of red eyes. Taking stuttered steps, the panther passed by Ayan then moved to Darby. A brief and subtle purr escaped the creature as Darby petted the head of the magnificent animal. The creature laid beside Darby and glanced about the roof.

"Thats the second time this animal has been here in two days, Darby. When the Emperor returns..." Upon hearing 'returns', the panther rose and roared. Glancing at the empty Throne, the beast moved away and sniffed the journal on the armrest. The feline predator began to shimmer and grow. The fur pulled inward becoming a silken robe. Standing on its hind legs, the panthers joints reversed and what was once a cat was now a massive humanoid figure. Pulling back hood, the orkin mask of the Soul Predator turned on the Atalan women.

"Manke Tenebrous, edainme..."

Ayan closed her eyes and formed the words of Flight in her her mind. "He said, 'Where...where is Tenebrous, woman'...." Flight roared with a fury that made Ayan and Darby drop to defensive combat stances. These Fara were so unpredictable...

Flight snorted at the woman and turned to the journal and began pouring over it. His eternally moist and bloody fingers turned the pages slowly as he absorbed all it contained. Upon reaching the final page of the journal, Flight raised his head to the heavens and let out s blood-curdling scream that shook the Atalan Fortress. His eye sockets smoked as he hurled the book of the wall." It was now very apparent to Flight as to the whereabouts of the Fallen God. Breathing heavily, he spat a single word before making his way down the steps. Darby looked at Ayan...unfortunately, neither knew the proper translation.

Preparations...

Nick SeafortA swift wind rushed through the sails of the Wyrm of the Seas as the Enforcer stepped off of the plank and onto the docks at Magincia. His deep azure cape swiftly waved behind him, pulling some as the breeze whipped it about. The clanking of his metal boots against the wood beneath him as he strode to the nearby street. Stone met the shadow iron of his plate leggings, and the loud striking sound became more pronounced. He came to a stop as he saw the man he expected, long blue hair and deep charcoal robes flowing as he rushed forth in nearly a run.

"Nemesis Enforcer, thank ye for coming," Ra'Dian Fl'Gith said in a huff, coming to a stop before him, his blue eyes just a little brighter than natural.

"I understand not why it was necessary to sail the Wyrm here, but I came as you asked," the Enforcer said, trying to read the thoughts of his young friend.

"I needed ye to remember that this be an isle," Ra'Dian answered, his lips cocked in some sort of sly smile.

Nemesis was glad he was still wearing his helm, for it would have been hard to hide the rolling of his eyes and the grim smirk beneath otherwise. "I am well aware that this is an island, Ra."

"Aye, that ye are," Ra'Dian said, his smile becoming more of a grin. "But oft times, people tend t' forget that when they be defendin' it. They try t' fight a fully ground war, and this isle is too small t' forget it tis surrounded by water."

"Defend?" The Enforcer reached up and removed his close helm, looking Ra'Dian straight in the eyes. "Am I to take it that I am leaving the Cult again to follow you?"

"Follow me? Nae. T' lead. Tre'Lianne can handle the Cult. Your plans of going through that moongate are still months off, and she will make sure the studies be complete. I need ye here in Magincia now, for I cannae defend her m'self... and yet, I feel I owe it t' those who are just foundin' the Council here t' give them protection while they build."

"I see... From which enemy do I stand in defense against?"

Ra'Dian's smile left his face entirely. "The Atalan. Word hae reached me that they intend to build one o' their 'churches' here. We shall ask them nae to do so, but I think they willnae take too kindly to our request. I was hard pressed nae to demand action when it was in Skara Brae and Trinsic their eyes be set, but Skara is in chaos, and Trinsic... well, Gurney hae bought into their guises, I believe."

"And you have not?" The Enforcer stood silently for a moment, thinking back a few thousand years, remembering small traces of the Atalan from Sosarian history, long before it was known as Sosaria. He remembered little, save that he trusted the Atalan about as much as he trusted their Drow cousins.

Ra'Dian interrupted his thoughts. "No, I havnae. Their 'general,' Asimov, came with threats o' the end o' Britannia, the end o' man, and they were echoed at a couple o' other meetings. While I believe that perhaps some Atalan are not hell bent 'pon this course, I amnae foolish enough t' believe that the general o' their armies couldnae strike us before either they or we knew better."

"Then my duty shall be to drive them out?"

"I look at it as preemptive defense. Mark my words, Valeryx... they are nae buildin' these churches for peaceful worship of a kind god." Ra'Dian's eyes flashed a bright blue briefly, and then he smiled again. "Do you accept the task?"

"I do," the Enforcer said as he lowered himself to one knee.

Ra'Dian tapped his shoulders with his crook and said in a bold voice, "Arise, Nemesis Enforcer, Grand Admiral of the Magincian City Militia. Your first task is to build an army and a navy..."

Next High Council Meeting
Submitted Friday, October 25, 2002 - 12:42:24 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortHail all,

As usual, I'd like to annouce the next meeting of the High Council of Britannia which will be on Monday, the 28th of October at 8pm CST in Trammel. We will meet in Skara Brae's Town Hall.

On the agenda for the evening will be the further discussion of a large reform bill being worked on as well as the proposal of one or many election ammendments to the charter to determine how new Chancellors, Justicars, and Marshalls shall be appointed to the council.

On a personal note, I encourage everyone to attend beyond the usual reasons -- this meeting shall be the last meeting of the Council I attend as the Chancellor of Virtue. It has been my primary duty as the first Chancellor to ensure that the Council becomes well established and able to operate smoothly. I feel that, for the most part, I have accomplished this, though there are still some bumps that need smoothed out.

Forget not what the Council has done, regardless of whether you approve of its existance or not -- more and more attend the meetings each time and more and more people become active in the roleplay it is creating. Beyond that, the Council is an excellent place to meet people and to keep up to date on the happenings of our world. It is my most supreme hope that when I step down, the council continues to exist and does not change in the respect mentioned above. You can expect -- and which is the reason I am stepping down and retiring -- whoever replaces me will bring a fresh light to the council and take it into new directions.

Hope to see you all there on Monday!
-Doctor Jerred Ghyss,
Chancellor of Virtue

The Offering, Part 2
Submitted Friday, October 25, 2002 - 11:35:37 AM by Syrisi Maldicta

Syrisi Maldicta"There is only one solution to end this, Caleb", the Ancient One began. "Where did this begin? The one who has called for your heads is the one that needs to be dealt with." She closed her eyes and drew a ragged breath. "Find the human who initiated the forces of virtue against your house, bring him into the circle above, and upon the pentagram he will be used as an offering to Lloth. Their resolve will crumble when this is done."

Caleb's eyes widened and his body tensed. He opened his mouth to speak and paused. "I must choose my words carefully," he thought to himself, then slowly looked toward the High Priestess. "This human, he is very cautious....he does not travel about the lands, and when he does he is not alone. The forces he carries with him outnumber us greatly."

"Caleb," the High Priestess smiled and held up her hand as she spoke. "The numbers will matter not, for I have been shown when and where he is to be taken."

Caleb listened intently as the Ancient One spoke. She told him of her vision ... how, where and when the human will be taken. When she was done she arose from her chair, motioning one of her matrons to escort the Jabbuk back to the surface.

"And Caleb," she spoke as he was walking away, "choose your warriors carefully, very carefully. Do not let all know the exact details of the seizing of this man. You know those you can trust and you have an idea of those you cannot. If told to the wrong one, your plans will fall apart and you will fail." With that the High Priestess entered her private chambers and closed the door.

The Offering, Part 1

Syrisi MaldictaThe Offering

As Jabbuk Lord Caleb stood upon the altar on the roof of the Dark Tower his gaze drifted across the surrounding land. He knew they were out there. They always were ... plotting and planning his demise and the destruction of Bregan D'Aerth. That was the way of the virtuous in these lands, he was use to it. But this time it was different. He could feel something not quite right within his house. As he tried to shake these thoughts from his mind he spotted the raven, and even in the dark he could see the message tied to its claw.

Anger filled his thoughts as he read the message. "Do they think me a fool?" he spat as the message burst into flame between his fingertips. As he scrawled his reply on a bit of parchment, he fed the raven a berry, tied the message to its claw and sent it off. The Jabbuk waved his hands and his mount appeared beneath him. He must seek answers and there is only one place he could get them from. "Kal ort por" he whispered as he disappeared from the tower roof.

It had been a long time since Dread Lord Caleb had visited this place, yet the candles still burned as if waiting for his return. As the Jabbuk stepped into the circle and onto the pentagram, the world around him disappeared. He smiled as the cloaked form approached him.

"Vendui' jabbuk d'lil qu'ellar d'bregan d'aerth" the female form spoke softly. "Udos inbal tlus feithin whol dos." As the form turned and walked away, she motioned for Lord Caleb to follow. She led him through the cavern tunnels. Things had not changed much since he was last here, he thought to himself. "Nau, Caleb, they have naut," she answered his thoughts.

As they reached the doorway the Jabbuk took a deep breath, wondering if he still held favor with her> Of course he did ... if not, he would have already been dead. The female stepped aside and motioned Lord Caleb to enter as the door opened.

The Jabbuk stood quietly upon the pentagram in the center of the room and waited until he was addressed by the figure kneeling at the grand altar in front of him. Slowly the figure rose and turned to face Caleb. "I know why you are here, old friend," the ancient one spoke. "I know of the problems you and the Bregan D'Aerth face and I prayed to the goddess for an answer. I believe I have that answer for you." As the High Priestess looked about the room, she motioned Caleb to follow her and led him to her private meeting room....

Two Trinsic Trash Girls Go Around the Outisde
Submitted Friday, October 18, 2002 - 3:27:19 PM by Basil

BasilGuess whos back, back again, Basil's back, tell a friend...

guess whos back
guess whos back
guess whos back

I am back for a special rant from the land known as real life. And as Ash pointed out, the Herald just seems so empty without me. So I looked around to see whats a'fire. Sure nuff, when I look at the Trinsic board, its like looking at Atlanta after Sherman marched through. Unfortunately it doesn't have the subtle Gone with Wind score playing in the background as the flames reach higher and higher.

Either way, this looks like a job for me.

The players?

Of course, the star, the Julia Roberts, the money maker, the center of controversy.

Name: White Lotus
Prior Works: Sanctuary Overthrow of Varrus (early work), Trinsic Gankage of Bregans D'Aerth (a classic, I must say I give four stars to this one, I suggest you rent it), Citizen's Defense of Britannia (was overrated), and Trinsic Secession (Latest Summer Blockbuster).

The stereotypical, and largely misunderstood, antagonist is being played by an upcomer.

Name: High Council
Prior Works: Trinsic Secession (Minor role) and Blanket Censureship (The suprise ending reminds me of Sixth Sense).

We have strong talent at the supporting actress positon!

Name: Trinsic Town Council
Prior Works: Trinsic Secession (Supporting role, won best supporting actress).

Of course we must have that token character that is always there...

Name: Great Lakes Roleplaying Community
Prior Works: Everything (Like Clint Howard being in all of the Ron Howard movies)

Whats the plot?

Why the same plot that the stuidos always copy and paste to their latest blockbuster. We take the damsel in distress, the evil protagonist, and of course the side characters, throw em into a he said/she said position and watch the fireworks go off.

"You destroyed my roleplay by doing your roleplay!" Lotus cries!

The High Council growls, "We roleplay 24/7, we don't give breaks!"

"But I demand it! You are ruining our roleplay, you roleplay ruiners you!"

"What about our roleplay? Aren't you ruining our roleplay by making us not roleplay the way we want to?"

Lotus side steps the question, "You are ruining our roleplay! Role play nazis!"

From the corner, the Great Lakes Roleplaying Community whispers, "What if those that don't want to give a break just not come, that way its not hurting their roleplay!"

The High Council and Lotus both ignore the good suggestion, "You are roleplaying nazi's! You are trampeling on our event!"

"But we didn't even try to get involved, you brought us into this by posting a b.s. complaint, the High Council doesn't care if you are throwing events!"

"Die you roleplay nazi's!" Lotus draws a dagger and leaps at the High Council.

*insert Matrix style fight-scene here*
(oh c'mon, all the stuidos insert one of these in somehow now)

At the end of the battle, both the High Council and Lotus come out looking bruised and battered, with the Great Lakes Roleplaying Community in the corner rolling its eyes.

*cue Oscar winning line

"Children... please..."

With that, both sides realize how stupid they are acting. Lotus holds out her hand, while placing the other behind her back and crossing her fingers, "Lets shake ok? I didn't mean to say such bad things about you all and bring you all into this falsely."

"Awww shucks, we are sorry for coming here and bickering about it on a stupid message board." The High Council shakes Lotus hand, but also starts to palm the dagger thats in their back pocket.

*cue music, roll credits, lights come on, and viewers cry and clap

The geeky kid directs you to exit up the ramp rather than continue down the hall to the side exit!

High Council Meeting Minutes
Submitted Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 3:34:08 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortThe minutes of the 15th Meeting of the High Council of Britannia are available upon the Council's Board of Notice (at council.alterythem.com) for review by the public. Two items of important note are as follows:

The High Council voted upon a blanket censure which would allow Councilors Kellor of Moonglow, Cornelius of Skara Brae, and Alex of Yew, as well as Ambassador Lilly Thann to be tried by the High Court with regards to the standing affairs and charges resulting from various events in Moonglow. It was so voted and passed, allowing now each the chance to defend themselves in the High Court.

Additionally, the High Council voted to allow the Acting Grand Marshall to declare war against the vampires of Chaotic Justice in response to their own declaration, and their actions in around both Skara Brae and Whispering Winds.

The 16th Meeting of the High Council of Britannia will occur on Monday, October 21, 2002 at 8:00 PM in the Lycaeum of Moonglow upon the Trammel fact. Currently on the agenda for the meeting is discussion and vote upon charter reform bills. As always, the public is welcome and encouraged to attend, and should anyone from the public need to address the High Council, time will be given prior to the close of the meeting to do so.

Thank you,

Ra'Dian Fl'Gith
Councilor of Magincia, Seat of Humility

Nick SeafortThis news comes from us, through UO.com, and then back to us again. Ordinarily, we would just cut out the middleman, but I figured.. why not?

via Kerowyn of UO.com:

The Daily Herald Interviews Sannio

Interested in learning more about UO's Online Content Coordinator? If so, head over to The Daily Herald and check out their latest interview with Sannio!

How did you come to choose the name Sannio?

I was once a Seer back in the day, and took the name "Sannio" as a tribute to a character who helped me get recognized as worthy of wearing the Green Robe. He was something of a jester, and in Latin "sannio" means something like "the fool who plays his part in a play."

Tournament of Champions
Submitted Wednesday, October 9, 2002 - 12:19:43 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick Seafort

Origin Systems is hosting an officially sanctioned player-versus-player (PvP) event: the Tournament of Champions!

The tournament will be a series of 2-on-2 "fight-night" style events with sixty-four teams from each of the 14 participating shards battling it out for the honor of becoming the shard champions! And that's not all-the 14 winning teams will advance to a final battle on Test Center, where the winners will be crowned the best duelists in UO!

Participants will be asked to pay an in-game fee of 25,000 gold coins per person, to be collected just before the match. Matches will be scheduled out over several weeks, so whether you're looking to join in the tournament or just show your support by cheering on your favorite fighters, be sure to check the schedule below. If you are going to join in, please make sure to read all the information below very carefully.

If you think you have what it takes to be the best of the best, read on!

Set-up & Rules: Participants should be familiar with the following details regarding the Tournament of Champions:

  • Good sportsmanship must be shown before, during, and after the entire Tournament of Champions.
    • TOS and ROC will be enforced throughout the entire event.
    • No spamming or manifesting will be permitted by participants or spectators.
    • Breaking of any of these rules will result in disqualification.
  • All players in the Tournament of Champions must fight as two-person teams.
    • Sixty-four teams from each of 14 shards (see the listing of shards below) will be accepted to participate.
    • If either member of the team does not show up for a scheduled fight, the team will be disqualified.
  • Each participant will need to pay an in-game entry fee of 25,000 gold coins (that's 50,000 gold coins per two-person team).
    • Each two-person team must pay this entry fee to a Game Master immediately before the start of their first match.
    • The entry fee will only need to be paid once per person.
    • Failure to pay the entry fee will result in a disqualification.
    • No refunds will be given in the event of a disqualification for any reason.
  • All fights will take place in the Jhelom arena.
    • Both members of each two-person team must be in the city of Jhelom at least 5 minutes prior to their scheduled bout.
    • Tournament officials will summon the combatants into the Jhelom arena at the time of the battle.
    • Failure to appear for your scheduled match will result in a disqualification.
  • Combatants may bring personal items into the competition, with the exception of the following:
    • No more than 12 combined potions.
    • No pets or mounts will be allowed.
    • Runic weapons will not be permitted.
  • Combatants may use any skills or spells except for the following:
    • No hiding will be allowed.
    • No use of the Invisibility spell will be allowed.
    • No summoning spells (Summon Fire Elemental, Summon Demon, etc.) of any kind will be allowed.
  • On the days scheduled below, 64 teams will compete on each shard, and one winning team will be chosen per shard.
    • There will be 32 separate fights, each lasting five minutes.
    • Each fight will pit one two-person team against another two-person team, and will be a fight "to the death." The team with the last member alive will be declared the winner of that match.
    • At the end of 5 minutes, if a winner has not been determined, the tournament officials will make a judgment call as to who will advance. A more aggressive team will win over a less aggressive team-number of survivors, damage done, demonstration of combat skills, and even avoidance of combat will all be factors.
    • Only the winning team of each match will advance to the next round.
    • There will be 6 rounds of fights on each shard on the appointed day, after which one team will emerge the winner.
    • All judgments of the tournament officials are final.
    • Once a combatant falls, he/she will be removed from the arena by tournament officials.
    • Players will not be allowed to loot one another; the loss of items will not be permitted.
  • The winning teams from the 14 participating shards will advance to the Grand Champion matches.
    • These Grand Champion matches will take place on a Test Center shard (schedule and rules to be announced).
    • All winning teams may be asked to participate in in-game promotional events or interviews for the UO.com website.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams on each shard, and a grand prize will be awarded to the ultimate winner on Test Center.
    • GMs will grant each of the winners a special paperdoll title and a specially labeled sash, created uniquely for this PvP Tournament.

Registering: Players who wish to fight in the Tournament of Champions must first register in two-person teams with OSI. To register, one of the teammates must send an e-mail that lists the chosen shard and both character names to the appropriate address below. Spelling must be exact. The Swaying of the Gallows
Submitted Wednesday, October 9, 2002 - 12:06:52 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortFrom Raistlin:

In the darkest of night the tap, tap, tap of dripping water could be heard echoing amongst the otherwise silent stone walls, as rain water found its way through holes in the masonry. There, curled upon a sleeping mat given to him by his captors, a young mage lay in fitful sleep. At his side lay chains wrought of iron and magically sealed so that no one of power could break them without the proper key. The chains clinked together as the young mage tossed in the throes of another dream. This dream was the same dream that had come to him many times before in his life, and as always, served as a doorway to the answers he sought.

A young boy, pale skinned, covered in grime stood before him with his hand outstretched. His eyes were bright blue and his hair the color of straw. As before the young mage took the boy's hand and allowed himself to be lead along a path through an ancient ruined city beneath a surreal night sky. The world was blanketed in perpetual twilight, with streaks of the deepest blood-crimson, and hues of elegant purple painted in feathery swaths across the skyline. Everywhere were bursts of fiery stars that seemed about to explode, and so close were they to the earth that the heat of each and every one could be felt faintly, like the sun's warmth through a clouded sky. Meteors left green streaks througout the cosmos, leaving the impression that some great beast had rent the sky with it's poisonous claws, and a fell wind blew amongst the debris of the ruined city, bringing with it whispers of ancient dread and terror. This was a place of horror and unnamed evil so old that no one on the mortal planes living could know it's name. Above the two travellers, standing as the only edifice daring enough to pierce the terrible night sky, was an ancient ruined temple.

As always the young boy lead the mage up the winding and broken path, past the shattered marble collumns of what must have once been a glorious highway of beauty built in tribute to some incredible power. Before them stood once again, the temple carved and formed of obsidian. This time however, the doors had been blasted open by some incredible force. The young mage hesitated in his ascent and the boy broke free, continuing to the steps. Standing there, his eyes pleading with the young mage, he beckoned for his companion to come forward. Complying without eagerness, the young mage came forward. It was here that the boy usually left him behind to face his fate alone within the dark confines of the temple walls, but this time the boy ran behind the mage, fear in his clear blue eyes, clutching at the mage's nightmare cloth cloak.

The young mage continued forward, into the black night of the temple's inner sanctum. There the same raised dais met him. Upon the dais stood the same low stone table, but here there was no black gate, as he had always met before. Here in his dreams he had struggled with some unknown power behind the gate, attempting to pull him in to some deathly pit of despair. Now there stood a gallows on the low stone table. And hanging from the gallows was his own body. His hair hung limply on his shoulders, and his eyes stared deep into the nothingness of the Eternal Void. The young mage stifled a cry that came to his lips as he looked upon his own corpse, as he felt the presence of another power in the room. Behind the gallows two pale eyes glowed with evident hatred and malice.

The young mage looked behind him, making sure the boy was still safe, and then stepped cautiously forward to further inspect this power behind the gallows. He could feel the baelful fury steaming from the stone table, but he caught a hint of something altogether different. A cool, refreshing wind began to blow upon him, and he felt himself coming awake slowly. His power was returning, bit by bit. He felt whole again, as though his soul had been made intact, that had previously been banished beyond his reach. He felt the power of magic course through his fingers, and the words of power swim through his mind as though he had never forgotten them. Looking back into the blackness he knew what he sensed in this presence that felt such hatred for him. It was an intense and burning fear. With a howl of rage and desperation the presence fled the inner sanctum, deep into the bowels of the temple to stew in some dark corner.

Looking upon his coprse one last time, the young mage felt himself stirring to full wakefulness. The boy standing behind him was no longer afraid, and a smile crossed his face as the dream blurred from the young mage's mind and his eyes opened fully.

He was still chained to the wall of one of the towers of the Order of the Silver Serpent on the island of Serpent's Hold. It had been three days since he had given himself up and surrendered to his greatest enemy. Due to his constant disbelief in the ways of Chaos, and his challenges to the god of his Cult, the mage's power and his soul had been imprisoned far beyond the mortal plane. In the Eteranl Void the Black One looked down on this worthless husk of a man and laughed. The mage could feel that laughter burn his skin. There had been no choice. He had to give himself up to one enemy or another.

But the dream had showed him all was not lost.

Stretching in the damp air of the tower he rose to his feet and walked to the book shelves on the other side of the room. Tearing out the blank pages of a few of them, he made his way across the room and took up a quill pen, beginning to write. More convinced than ever that he had chosen the right path, a grim smile crossed the young mage's face.

Raistlin had lost a battle with his god, but he would win the war.

Workers
Submitted Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 10:26:39 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortVia BNN:

Far underground, among the soil and stone, two workers had been busy for an entire day. They considered their work within the gloomy cavern pleasant and distracting. The constant flow of warriors skittering by and the sounds of clashing swords and armor echoing down the rocky dirt hallways had stopped bothering the pair hours ago, not that such workers were easily distracted. They toiled under request of the Matriarch. Besides, the two workers had created their own distractions while they labored.

“… Your most embarrassing scientific moment?” Borvin asked Krett.

Krett looked up from the tall contraption he was building beside a large pool of water. He thoughtfully scratched his chin. “Most embarrassing… ah… that is a difficult one.” The tinker leaned forward again to reach inside the device with one of his tools, making a few squeaky adjustments. “That’s ah… hmm, that’s a difficult one.” Krett blushed slightly in the dim light. “There have been so many.”

“Just choose one!” Borvin sat on a small stool by the underground spring with alchemy equipment spread out before him. He leaned down with a small glass vial to gather another sample of the water. After dripping a few drops of a deep blue liquid into the vial, he shook his head and tossed the contents out. “I’ll go first if you like.”

“Please, ah… after you, by all means.” Krett’s voiced slightly echoed out from the device that he had stuck his head into.

Borvin looked towards the shy tinker and raised an eyebrow. “Are you certain that it is safe for you to have your head in that thing? There are quite a few moving parts in there. Aren’t you worried about losing an ear?”

Krett pulled his head out of the device and smiled at Borvin. “Only if I don’t move my head every seventeen and a half seconds.” The machine made an almost fierce swooshing sound, as if a blade were being swung. Krett stuck his head back inside and continued making adjustments. “It’s your turn.”

“Ah, yes, right, my most embarrassing scientific moment.” Borvin thought for a moment as he stared into a beaker. “That would have to be the day I blew up my alchemy instructor.”

Krett giggled from within his machine. “I… ah, I know I shouldn’t laugh at that, but you, ah… you blew him up? That sounds rather violent.”

“Oh he wasn’t hurt,” Borvin’s gut shook slightly as he chuckled, “although I’m still not sure how. I was nearly finished with my instruction from this particular professor my father had sent me to. The fellow didn’t seem to care for my prowess, thought I was too smart for my own good.”

Krett pulled his head out of his device again, just before a slicing sound came out. He grabbed another of his tinker tools and climbed back in. “I’ve, ah… I’ve had instructors like that before. They always thought I was too smart for my own good as… ah… as well.”

“Well this teacher was correct; I was slightly big for my own britches. Some things never change, eh?” Borvin patted his stomach. “It was my final project and I mixed a new potion that I thought was going to revolutionize alchemy. Unfortunately I had made a very simple mistake. When my instructor came to test it, the potion exploded and “revolutionized” him right through the wall of his house and halfway down the street.”

Krett’s laughter echoed inside his device.

“I was terrified. There I am standing blackened with soot in this shell of a house, with my instructor lying in the street looking rather dead. After I stood there in shock for ages, he slowly stood up, walked back to the house and told me very calmly to go home.”

“Go home?” Krett again dodged whatever horrible fate awaited those who did not move every seventeen and a half seconds. “That’s… ah, that’s it? Just go home? Oh, hello there.” Krett blushed slightly, realizing he had said hello to a passing Solen worker that was curiously inspecting the two men who had been made friends of the hive.

“Well, that day, yes. The next day I started working for him. It took a year and a half to help pay off the damage I had done.” Borvin combined two of his potions together, then poured a few drops of the spring water in the mixture. “Hmmm, I think Adranath was correct; their water supply does seem to have some effects of the decay in it. Probably turned them into their current form, but it could also kill them before too long.”

“I guess maybe they, ah… they came to the surface looking for water?” Krett asked.

“Could be, could be.” Borvin poured the mixture out and began packing up his bottles and potions. “Now it’s your turn. Your most embarrassing moment in science, what is it?”

Krett’s hand felt along the ground near his tools. He pulled his head out of the machine to look around. “Possibly right now, I, ah… I seem to have lost one of my wrenches.”

“That’s your most embarrassing moment?” Borvin asked.

“Well I… ah, I’ve never lost a tool before!” “That was a perfectly good wrench and… Krett looked nervously at the ground, then looked up to see the curious Solen worker a few steps down the tunnel trying to chew on his wrench. ”Ah, there! You!”

He ran up to the worker and gently tried to put his hands on the tinker tool to take it away. It was like watching a mother fight with a fussy baby. The worker squealed slightly and tried to brush Krett’s hands away. “I need that… ah, give me the wrench, please! You want me to, ah… to help your Matriarch, don’t you?”

Borvin walked up behind Krett with a small jar of a golden-looking clear substance and waved it in front of the upset Solen. “Mmmmm, doesn’t that smell good, yes?” The workers antennae shifted towards the jar. It suddenly let go of the wrench, causing Krett to stumble backwards into the pool of water with a yelp. Borvin held the jar out to the creature as it snatched it away and walked down the tunnel chirping to itself.

“What did you give him?” Krett asked spitting out water as he took Borvin’s hand to help him stand.

“Honey. I brought some for the bread I had with lunch.” Borvin grinned. “They may be six feet tall, with a talking Queen, but some things never change. Are you alright?”

Krett wiped the water off his face. “Yes, I’m fine.” He walked back over to his device, reached into the opening with his wrench, and made one twist. “And I’m, ah… I’m all done here.”

“Do you think it will work?” Borvin asked as he gathered up his things to leave.

“I hope so, if not it’s going to, ah…. Well it would be rather, ah… embarrassing.” Krett smiled.

The two examined their work with pride. The new device they had come up with looked strange, but it was the only hope for the Solen Matriarch and her people.

As the pair of scientists began the hike out of the tunnels, Borvin turned to Krett with a slight smile. “You never did tell me what your most embarrassing moment was.”

“You just saw it.” Krett said.

Jenner Annouces he will run for the New Trinsic Big Government
Submitted Wednesday, October 2, 2002 - 1:04:01 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortLord Jenner announces that he will run for the new Big Government seat for the City of Trinsic. Candidate Jenner stated that he would run on a platform of a strong local government and a weaker central government. He explained his belief that a central government has only 4 purposes: 1) Act as mediator when disputes arise between cities. 2) Protect the roads that link the cities, 3) Protect and hold the lands outside the cities in trust until Lord British’s return to his people. 4) To help the City Councils organize in a time of Crises.

Candidate Jenner further asks the people of Trinsic who can best to serve them? The People who are the direct representative of the people of Trinsic or the council of several cities, in which Trinsic has only 1 voice out of many?

Candidate Jenner is a long time resident of Trinsic and Grandmaster Bowyer, who fought during the undead invasion. He also supplied many defenders during that time with bows and arrows. Candidate Jenner’s Axe also bit deeply into the juka during their invasion of Trinsic.
