Mistral Omenborn
Elder Bard
Thane of Clan Omenborn
Regent of Rik-Baraz, Home of the United Dwarven Clans.

Greetings Fellow,
Dwarves, Lords and Ladies, Nobles and Peasants, Paladins and Knights and all the citizens of Sosaria. Oh ya the Elves too.

The Dwarves of Rik-Baraz in the lands of Malas need your help. The High King of the Dwarves is ill and dying. An heir must be found, before civil war erupts within the clans.
A prophecy was give to the Loremaster Quill Runebrand that leads to clues that the lost and thought dead son of Damon still lives. Here is that Prophecy

*"Nine kings were set upon their iron thrones,
flame & fire in ancient bones
wrought in battle, forged of steel
lost from the sun's burning wheel.

In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where powers dark can only die.
Nine hammers were forged of Valorite cold
by smithies ancient, & magician's bold
mixing steel, fused with magic
to end a war long & tragic.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where young born kings can only die.

Five gems were sealed with a glorious fate
locked in a tomb to lie & wait
until a hand of strength & honor born
pulled then from their grave unworn.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
Where lost powers can only die.

One King will rise in final fire
to lead the Clans from death and ire
though in the battle his father shall fade
his shadow will walk his halls a watchful shade.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where a mighty lord shall never die.

These five gems will point to where the lost heir can be found. Clues will be given out over the nexts few weeks.

The current Allies of the Dwarves;
Highland Guard (H>G), Novus Terra (NvT), Great House Aldaron (GHA) and of course the United Dwarven Clans.

The Forces of against us;
Bloodrock Clan (Urk), Goblin War Horde (GWH), Last Order of the Atalan (] [A).
Are you brave enough to aid the Dwarves on this quest, or is your heart as black as the depths and wish to see the proud Dwarven nation fall. Choose your side. Join in and have some fun.

If you or your guild is interested in joining. Please contact us or any of the Guilds involved. Gem Omenborn our rep waits at the Barnacle Inn in Minoc.

Dwarven Prophecy Continued.. A letter to the Loremaster

Nick SeafortFrom Gem Omenborn:

Dear Master Runebrand

I arrived in Minoc much later than expected due to the spring storms of Rik-Baraz. I knew, of course, that the Trammel lands got much colder than Rik-Baraz with the moderating influence of the sea, but this knowledge had not really prepared me for how much colder it would feel. I was freezing for most of my journey. The rain proved to be more challenging than I expected as well. It was novel and somewhat fun, not all that difficult for the first little way, but mile after mile of it wore me out. In the end, I spent more of my funds on lodging than I had planned, arriving in Minoc with barely enough left to secure lodgings for the next few days. Today, I am nearly broke. Even so, my optimism is undimmed. I continue to long for adventure and am finally in the wild lands of Trammel where adventure comes knocking at the door of the willing spirit.

Vesper was fascinating. It is bordered on the east by the Great Sea which extends to Ice Island. To the west rise the much bigger Mountains of Avarice Range, with elevations approaching 15,000 feet. The Bloody Plains lie through a dale with an ancient feel. The forests and rivers seem bigger, older, deeper and more numerous than what is shown on the map.

Minoc is a bustling little Town. Again, not quite what I expected. It is somewhat larger and more diverse in its shops and services than I was told by traders passing through Vesper. I might have been better off delaying some equipment purchases until my arrival here. As a result, I now have some fine adventuring gear, but clothing ill suited to this climate and season.

You may be surprised to learn that there is a respectable public library here with a Church of Minoc attached. Several priests are in attendance and the collection is expanding. In addition there is a print shop that is run by Kurgen, a practitioner of the Arts. Have you heard of him? He seems to be doing a fine business in printing books and posters. I have met the man and he may be able to point me in the direction of the books we seek.

Thanks to your letter of introduction I have also introduced myself to the General of the Highland Guard, Jakob Covenant. We had a cordial if brief meeting. If not for your letter, I suspect I would have been turned away at the door. Their tower appears to be a place where I may be able to work on scrolls and potions if I choose. They may have opportunities too for employment as a Brewer, but as I hope to make my way incognito, I am not planning seek employment.

There is a very impressive guild hall for adventurers, the New World Order. I have already assembled a likely band of companions. Our stalwart band now consists of, in addition to me, Josef Omenborn, a Dwarf Ranger, Durin Redmane, and Snorri, Yes, the half mad Trollslayer.
Durin brought us by the shop of Thorfel Firebeard a Dwarven weapon smith. He gave us the responsibility of delivering a scroll to Novus Terra. This little task delayed us just abet in our Quest. Here is a list of some of the things we have already discovered:

. There is a ruined Dwarven stronghold two days south of here. In the lower levels is a room of unknown books. He gave us a big iron key to the lock and instructions on how to find it.
. A land shipment of goods that was to be delivered through Britain to Trinsic has gone missing between here and Cove. The clerk at the shop is willing to front us for travel clothes if we find the shipment of leather fasteners, shields and steel swords. We will get an additional reward if we bring in the shipment.
. Kurgen, the printer (an elderly wizard with a long white beard and blue robes) wants us to meet him this evening to offer us another, mysterious opportunity for adventure. He wants us to be ready to travel out in the wilds for a few days.
. We have already delivered an important missive between the weapon smith and the clerk at Cove. I expected trouble along the way, but if it was waiting to strike, the look of our small but formidable band must have given any troublemakers second thoughts. Or Snorri's snoring drove them away.

We have also met a variety of other citizens of the Town here. None so well as my three companions, but I should at least mention them here to you. They include the adventuring duo of Slash and Burn who were very impressive looking. They ignored us on their way into the guild hall. There was Fogram Smilingbear, a rather taciturn "Far Ranger" recently returned from a patrol. Ferias, an elf spell caster. We also have an appointment tomorrow to speak with the head of the Paladin training hall, Fr. Erasmus. Finally, we were told that we should meet the Took, proprietor of a shop here in town.

There is so much to do and little time to do it. This is fortunate and a curse because neither do our fell foes. I am desperately short of gold at the moment. Thank you for your advice and tutelage, I hope to write again soon. Until next, I remain

Your devoted student,
Gem Omenborn
Brewmaster Of Karad-A-Karaz

Dwarven Prophecy

Nick SeafortFrom Quill Runebrand:

Far to the west, deep within the Mountain, smoke and steam raise's forming great billowing clouds from the chimneys and vents of the Dwarven furnaces. The walls ring to the thunderous clanging of hammers on anvils, the scrape of blades on whetstones, and the roaring blaze of a hundred furnaces. In the ruddy gloom, the Dwarfs toil wordlessly, sweat pouring from their furrowed brows. The air was hot and dry, yet each labored in a padded leather jerkin, some even still wearing their helmets mail, and their hands were covered with heavy gauntlets. The din and the soaring temperature make for an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. Mistral and Gem Omenborn strode across the Bridge of Valaya and down the stairs, to the Hall of the ancient Dwarf Loremaster, Quill Runebrand. Before them stood a heavily reinforced iron door. The guard saluted the approaching Greatbeard and Ambassador and pulling a massive set of keys from his belt, he opened the lock. Fantastic emblems of Dwarven design such as Dragons or the Sigils of Grungni and Grimnar shone brightly on the shields. Mistral eyes were drawn to the far end of the room. On the wall there was arranged but one set of wargear. It was a complete set of armour, including a Shield and Hammer made from the finest Valorite. The rune on the breastplate seemed at first to reflect the light of the torches; it was only on close inspection that Gem realized that it glowed brightly, empower by its own source. Already sitting at the great table was Thorek Ironbrow; both Omenborns took seats at the table. The aged Loremaster took his seat at the head of the table. With a gesture Quill cast's the Rune of warding sealing the room. "What I'm about to say comes as no shock. As we all have been affected a dark cloud has affected our casting the Rune of Fate." "Have yer found its source" asked Thorek. "That has been denied to us awell" replied Quill. "That is not why I have called you all toughter here now". "Before the cloud descended I was able to cast the rune of fate and was given and ominous cast". "Wel don't hold us in suspense and tell us what it said" Gem quipped. "Very well then this is what it said".
"Nine kings were set upon their iron thrones,
flame & fire in ancient bones
wrought in battle, forged of steel
lost from the sun's burning wheel.

In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where powers dark can only die.
Nine hammers were forged of Valorite cold
by smithies ancient, & magician's bold
mixing steel, fused with magic
to end a war long & tragic.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where young born kings can only die.

Five gems were sealed with a glorious fate
locked in a tomb to lie & wait
until a hand of strength & honor born
pulled then from their grave unworn.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
Where lost powers can only die.

One King will rise in final fire
to lead the Clans from death and ire
though in the battle his father shall fade
his shadow will walk his halls a watchful shade.
In the Dwarven lands beneath the sky
where a mighty lord shall never die.
A silence fell upon the room. Each Dwarf a powerful and wise Rune-Master in their own right turned pale as one. Mistral was the first to speak. "Have you informed the King?"
"No," replied Quill "and I can not, nor shall any of you". "Since the time before Lord British, We Dwarves have stood shoulder to shoulder with the human realms against their greatest threats, often at a great cost to ourselves. We will continue to stand with them to whatever end it leads. We need there help. I do not believe the rune speaks of Jerem or Josef, But of Derkin the Kings firstborn". "What?' Derkin was lost to us in the accident involving Snorri, T'was the reason he took the Slayer oath" stammered Mistral. "My son took the oath on a lie?" a shaken Gem asks. "I don't' know for sure." replied Quill. "That is why we must enlist our friends and allies. To find these Gems and hope they point the way". "Gem you will ask our Allies on the Council of The Confederacy". "Mistral, you will make your way to Minoc and seek out the Highlanders. "Thorek, you are the youngest but to you will fall the hardest task. You must seek out the Elves. A gasp from all the dwarves just about sucked the wind out of the room. With a wave of his hand Quill restored order to the room. "Yes, the Elves. Journey to the white tower, perhaps with their majiks we can lift this cloud". With that Quill rose from his chair and walked to his private chambers. Each Dwarf looked upon another, rose as one and left the Hall. Never had three dwarves looked so grim, the fate of the King, the clans and the Son's of Grimnar now rested in their hands. The great gates of Karaz-A-Karad opened; the three bade each other well and rode off.

The Quest Begins..

Council Application Now Open
Submitted Friday, June 20, 2003 - 6:04:46 PM by Ra'Dian Fl'Gith

Ra'Dian Fl'GithHail, Citizens of Britannia,

It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the Council Application on the High Council's website. This application is a quick and easy way to apply for an open position on the High Council.

Open Positions on the High Council:
Councilor of Minoc
Councilor of Britain
Councilor of Trinsic

If you have recently sent in an application, please fill in a new application. I apologize for the inconvenience, but the reason for this new form is that we were receiving far too many non-important deliveries through our courier, and were unable to sort the good from the bad.

The applications will remain open until the following dates:
Britain: June 28, 2003
Trinsic: July 5, 2003
Minoc: July 12, 2003

The reason for this is to allow us to concentrate on one seat at a time, rather than fill a meeting with public scrutiny for multiple seats.

The 50th meeting of the High Council of Britannia will take place on Monday, June 23, 2003 at 8:00 PM CST in the North Dining Room of Castle Britain on the Trammel facet. Time will be given at the start of the meeting for members of the public to bring item before the Council.

Thank you,

Ra'Dian Fl'Gith

    Tales and Ales Improv!
Submitted Saturday, June 7, 2003 - 12:11:22 PM by Nate Byrd

Nate ByrdHello everyone, Nate Byrd here! I’m glad to announce Tales and Ales’ first event in a matter of weeks! If you need a rune to Tales and Ales Malas, please contact Nate Byrd! Here’s the announcement:

"Hail to thee citizens of Sosaria, my name is Huitzilophochtili, but me' friends call me Huitz. I am a Lieutenant in the Highland Guard and have been with community for about a year and a half. I am an avid role player and would love to see a contest not of brute strength, but of mental wit. As a result, I am holding a contest of role-play and improv at 7 pm CST on Sunday, June 15 at Tales and Ales Malas.

It would be as so: Many boxes are going to be set up; each contestant picks a box and opens it. Inside each box is a costume and a book telling you what the central design of the character is. Here is an example; the box contains a suit of armor and the book would say, Paladin/Knight. Now it is your job to create a name, a background, any and all quirks your newly created character might have. You will mill about a tavern setting and interact with others characters created at the spur of the moment just like yourself. There will also be judges about judging you on your creativity, and since this is a contest, awards will be given out.

Come in Character, and create a new one. Good day, and I hope to see all of you there. Strength and Honor."

    Hello everyone!

    Herald not Going Anywhere.. but
Submitted Tuesday, June 3, 2003 - 4:14:50 AM by Nick Seafort

    Nick SeafortHowdy readers!

If you're like me, you've "lost the love" so to speak. Those things that you once enjoyed about UO are gone, or different, or unappealing. The same things play out over and over again, It's like eating a filet mignon 3 times a day, everyday. After awhile, it loses it's appeal.

That being said, I know that many of you out there aren't like me. You're still jazzed about cool purple weapons, new rideables, and hey maybe they'll get around to fixing those bugs now that we pay them $500,000 more a month.

Those in the latter category can still benefit from a service like the Herald. The Big H still has the good stuff the way you want it, still has the potential to give you even more compelling good stuff. We're still ad-free and lickety fast.

So, this brings me to the third point. I'm not getting any news from you guys out there in roleplay land, I'll get maybe 2 or 3 stories in a week.

So here's the bottom line: my remaining days in UO are numbered. Try as I might to be interested anymore, I just can't do it. It's changed to much from the game I knew and loved.

I will always be around for the community, no matter where I go, or what I do, I can still maintain the Herald indefinately.. that is, so long as news is coming in. As the title says, the Herald isn't going anywhere.

In the end, the Herald is just a service for you guys, so for that reason I need to solicit your opinions. Do you still use the Herald? Would you like to see it continue? Would you like to see it continue differently? Should the Herald just go away altogether, or just become an archive? Make like Springer and tell it like it is, girlfriend!
