Blood Over Virtuous Waters II. "Unity of Nations"
Submitted Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 12:53:41 PM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortMore from Lore:

To long has war separated our lands; a separation of both body and spirit. Before either of our lands can know true harmony, our philosophical differences must be attended and our spirit healed. Should we find a means to reconcile those philosophical differences, our lands can heal in body and a Unity of Nations occur.

This is our greatest hope but in order for this to occur we must come together to find a means to retain the sovereignty and dominion of Britannia while at the same time preserving and protecting the Quest of Unity.

After much thought and discussion, this is what we propose:

-The Kingdom of Lore shall cease to exist as an independent Kingdom and shall once again become part of Britannia as Whispering Winds.

-All warrants for citizens of Whispering Winds related to the conflict be forgiven. (Note: The only known warrant stands against Lore Denin for Treason).

-Whispering Winds will hence forth be recognized as the City of Order (as Wind is the City of Balance) and serve as a window into Britannia’s past; a living example of the “Old Order” to new generations of Britannians.

-The Philosopher of Order become Whispering Winds representative to the High Council. Whispering Winds will provide the Philosopher of Order an office and residence within Whispering Winds.

- The local/town government of Whispering Winds will be structured after the government of Britannia as it was under Lord British before his first departure. (Note: Though fashioned after the initial Britannian government, Whispering Winds remains a local/town government and has no authority outside its domain. The Ruling Council, and in turn the High Council, remain the ultimate authority over Whispering Winds as they do over all Britannia).

-The Lord of Whispering Winds will head the institution of Order established by Lord British, and shall be known as the Lord of Order. The Lord of Order will be entrusted to restore Virtue to the Institution while providing guidance to Order Knights in concordance with the teachings and philosophies of Lord British (Note: The Lord of Order has no control over who joins Order nor are they bond to take his advice).

-Preserving the Integrity of the Quest of Unity: The Institutions of Order and Chaos created by Lord British and Lord Blackthorn shall be given domain over the Quest of Unity. In the words of Lord British, “…thy guards and mine may co-exist, but none may join both; and they may quarrel freely, and yes, even shed blood. And perhaps then shall we see whose virtues stand in a trial of combat."
Henceforth, the High Council shall pass no law, take no action, issue no edict or otherwise interfere with the Quest of Unity. Individual Council members, however, are free to join either Order or Chaos if they so desire. In recognition of Britannian sovereignty and the New Order established by Lord British and The Ruling Council acting in his direct stead can at anytime countermand any or all aspects of this agreement and take any action it deems necessary for the protection of Britannia and its people. (Note: Being a member of Order/Chaos does not protect an individual from legal persecution nor is it a legal defense for committing a crime).

-Lore Denin shall abdicate the throne and all claims of King, and upon his abdication, having already been recognized as King by citizens of the land, shall inherit the titles of Lord of Order and Whispering Winds and immediately assume the duties therein.

-The Philosopher of Chaos act as an advisor to the Lord of Order and stand in Blackthorn’s stead as a philosophical counter point for the people of Whispering Winds.

Virtue Guide us,
Till All Are One,

Lord Denin, Kingdom of Lore

The Chaos of Unity
Submitted Friday, April 2, 2004 - 5:30:12 PM by Ra'Dian Fl'Gith

Ra'Dian Fl'GithHail, Citizens of Britannia,

Virtue. Order. Unity. These are the words which have recently been spread throughout Britannia by the Ankh of Unity and the City of Whispering Winds in an attempt to mask that which has transpired freely throughout the Kingdom and Country of Britannia. Before I continue with these words, I wish it to be clear that I do not look to return the state of war which briefly existed betwixt Britannia and its child, the City of Whispering Winds, but I am dismayed by the information which has recently been disemminated.

To that end, I will not argue the philosophical points, but rather make clarifications upon the views recently expressed by Lore Denin of Whispering Winds. It is true, our sovereign, Lord British, as his final act in this land before leaving for the Abyss with the shards of Gem of Immortality, did, with what he spoke of as wisdom and insight gained after Lord Blackthorn's death, abandon the quest to reunite the shards of the gem. I will readily admit, I was both surprised, and relieved at that moment, for I readily admit I was uncertain what reunification would lead to. However, I am certain of things that perhaps throughout my life I was not certain of before... Lord British makes no decision on whim, nor on swift circumstance. While I long disagreed with the retreat to Trammel, I am certain he did what he believed to be best. Further then, I believe that he did not come to the decision to remove the Shards of the Gem from Sosaria in a single hasty moment of reflection upon his lost friend...

Blood over Virtuous Waters, "A Conflict of Philosophy"
Submitted Friday, April 2, 2004 - 11:35:23 AM by Nick Seafort

Nick SeafortFrom Lore Denin:

Whispering Winds, a small town located on the eastern outskirts of Skara Brae, nestled between western shores and the Fair Grounds, was founded on the Philosophy of Order and the Principles of Virtue espoused by Lord British. This Philosophy has become the lifeblood of the citizens who have diligently supported and pursued Lord British's Quest to Re-unite the Shards of the Multiverse with the True Universe (sometimes referred to as Prime). It is this Quest of Unity, which has subsequently led to conflict between our lands and the "New Order" of Britannia, which we define as the moment Lord British revoked his pledge to the Time Lord and abandoned the Quest of Unity.

Our dedication and support of Lord British’s Quest can be traced back 60 years to the founding of the Ankh of Unity, at a time when Lord British ruled from his castle, and sat at the head of the Order. Our beliefs are those of Old Britannia, as it had been before Lord British’s mysterious departure. An ideology we have carried in his absence and in his return. Despite the establishment of the “New Order” and installment of the Ruling Council as the governing body of Britannia it remains the ideology we continue to believe and follow.

We have no doubt, The Kingdom of Britannia in which the Ankh was established and later the town of Whispering Winds founded, exists today, in name only. The Principles, which our Lost King championed, have changed drastically upon his mysterious return and sudden departure. No community had so embraced and remained true to the old Philosophies of Lord British and subsequently no community was so completely devastated in wake of the establishment of this “New Order” which stands diametrically opposed to the Quest of Unity.

Most of the citizens of Whispering Winds consider themselves Britannians in the truest sense of the word. We are followers of Virtue who have served in the Order, as True Britannians fighting for the Dark Facet, and steadfast members of the Britannia Armed Forces here in Trammel. Breaking from Britannia was never a course we desired and a decision we did not take lightly and made with heavy heart. Yet to remain a part of Britannia was to support the newly returned Lord British whose views stood in stark contrast to the beliefs held by the King whom we had sworn fealty. To support this new course was a betrayal of the very core Britannia was founded. Many of the ideas of the “New Order” were downright Blackthornian in nature. To follow the “reformed” Lord British was to forgo the Quest, and against everything Lord British had stood and all we continue to believe. The Quest had always been to us the highest embodiment of Virtue and defined what was best about Britannia and most virtuous in our King.

After weeks of discussion, the citizens of Whispering Winds continued to try to integrate the old ideals into the “New Britannia Order”. Such actions resulted persecution, calls of treason and soon the arrest of their leader, Lore Denin. The final blow was dealt upon learning of Lord British’s plans to forever remove the shards from our plane (A course of action that may have forever ended the hope of the Shardal Union). For the first time, the Whispering Winds moved against their long time King, Lord British and pledged fealty to another, Lore Denin. The newly crowned Lord of Whispering Winds wasted little time, promptly declaring Whispering Winds’ Independent of Britannia and sending a call throughout the known lands for supported of the fledging Kingdom (What would later become known as the Kingdom of Lore).

The High Council responded in turn by sending the Britannia Armed Forces to siege the disputed territory and reclaim the land for Britannia. Lore Denin in their eyes was no more then a deluded, self-proclaimed King, a traitor and usurper, who sought nothing more then power for himself.

Whispering Winds prepared for siege and battle was met. The forces of Whispering Winds were overmatched by the much larger and superiorly armed Britannian Armed Forces. The Kingdom of Lore was forced to concede the shores but was able to hold the heart of the territory with the protection of its castle and fortresses, support from its allies and the creation of a magical Mythal (a magical barrier). After a year of heavy fighting with no clear resolution to the conflict, a ceasefire was signed that a diplomatic resolution could be reached.

That is where we stand today, both sides hopeful a peaceful resolution can be found. No good will come of a continued war between Britannia and The Kingdom of Lore. We are in the end two people of Virtue, those who have come to support the “New Order” and those who remain true to the Old. There are many paths to Virtuous and so I ask, “Are these paths so different so as to justify bloodshed?”

Bloodshed and difference have defined the conflict to this point, but keep faith that peace and Virtue, shall define our future.

Till All Are One,

Lord Denin, Kingdom of Lore

A Note from Lore Denin, “There are three sections to this document. 1) The first section outlines the nature and reasons for the conflict between Britannia and The Kingdom of Lore. 2) The second defines a peace wherein the two warring Kingdoms are reunited into one nation. 3) The third proposes a peace that would grant the Kingdom of Lore its Independence from Britannia wherein the two Kingdoms co-exist as allies and neighbors in Virtue.”
